Gabriela Thöne | Tourist Information Kassel

Come, see, enjoy! Interview with Gabriela from the Tourist Information (TI)

Her heart beats for Kassel: Gabriela Thöne is a travel agent. At the Tourist Information in the centre of Kassel, she gives guests valuable tips - every day.

  • Gabriela, with what concerns can guests turn to you?

Oh, we offer a wide range of services: You can get tickets for many events from us - for example, the Kultursommer or the Kulturzelt. Tickets for exciting city tours or sightseeing tours in the double-decker bus are also available. The popular city detective stories are also available from us - either as a booklet or as a digital version for your smartphone.

We are always ready to answer any questions you may have. We give tips on events, museums or advise on the right public transport ticket. My personal recommendation is the Kassel Card: in many cases it is the best choice, because in addition to the ticket it includes many discounts at cultural institutions or on guided tours.

  • Sounds like a lot of variety! What else do you love about your work?

A special feature of our Tourist Information is the large shop. It is especially close to my heart because I am responsible for the entire merchandise management. We offer around 80 different articles: Typical Kassel landmarks such as the Hercules, Himmelsstürmer or plush raccoons as well as the ever-popular magnets, postcards and city guides. There are also illustrated books, local children's books and hiking guides. Regional products such as Kassel city honey, wines and liqueurs round off the range. To make sure you never get bored, we put out souvenirs in changing designs. We also pay attention to quality and fair prices.

  • How important is tourist information in the digital age?

I see the TI as the perfect complement to digital tools. Because we are all about personal encounters and individual advice. My ambition is to give all customers an unforgettable Kassel experience. And that goes down well: very often, customers thank us effusively and emphasise how much their visit with us helped them.

  • Finally, we'd love to hear your local tips!

I'd love to - here are my top 3: Firstly, you should definitely use public transport when visiting the Bergpark. Then you can comfortably hike the 300 metres down and enjoy a breathtaking view of Kassel. Even if there are no water games taking place at the time, it is a special experience.

Secondly, when strolling through the city centre, don't miss the documenta outdoor artworks. You can visit them free of charge and at any time - great photo opportunities included! Close to the city centre is the GRIMMWELT Kassel, a multi-award-winning museum dedicated to the Brothers Grimm. Not only is the exhibition exciting - it is also worth exploring the area around the GRIMMWELT and enjoying the beautiful view from the freely accessible roof.

Thirdly, my culinary tip: When visiting our historic market hall, guests can try many "Schmeckewöhlerchen" from the region - such as the "Ahle Wurscht", which enjoys cult status here in North Hesse!

  • Thank you for the interview, dear Gabriela!
