natural park
Münden Nature Park is part of Germany's National Natural Landscapes and, having been founded in 1959, is the second oldest nature park in Lower Saxony covering 45,000 hectares.
It was recognised as a quality nature park by the Association of German Nature Parks in 2024. Unique natural and cultural landscapes invite you to discover them on foot, by bike or on the water! Located in the district of Göttingen, there are the nature park communities of Adelebsen, Dransfeld, Hann. Münden and Staufenberg.

Where the wildcat lives in the forests and the rivers are elements of life

The charming low mountain range landscape with the wild Kaufunger Wald forest and the fairytale-like Bramwald forest is characterised by the alternation of forest, meadows and fields. In addition to the diverse mixed forests, the landscape is enriched by impressive mountain views, babbling brooks and lovely meadow valleys. From the Hoher Hagen on the Dransfeld plateau, almost 500 metres above sea level, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view as far as the Harz Mountains. Rare animal and plant species such as kingfishers, black storks and orchids feel at home here, while monastery foundations and many small villages bear witness to the exciting and diverse cultural history of the Münden Nature Park. Fishing villages, rafting sites, charcoal kilns and glassworks are evidence of the centuries-old economy and life of the people in the region.

Around 450 kilometres of marked hiking trails with over 800 signposts, numerous cycle paths and boat trips on the Werra, Fulda and Weser offer unknown insights and open up new perspectives on the beautiful natural landscape. On our homepage you will find beautiful hiking tours,  nature park discovery offers and educational and adventure trails.

The Totenberg is very much alive

In the middle of the Bramwald forest lies the 420-hectare beech forest "Totenberg", which excludes any use on one fifth of the area. Rare, endangered animal and plant species can spread undisturbed here. With a bit of luck, you can spot peregrine falcons, kites and wildcats.

Water as an element of life

Rivers and streams run through the entire nature park, floodplains create the connection to the forest and are lifelines for flora and fauna. Thanks to successful stream renaturalisation, the low mountain stream Nieme now follows its original course all the way to the Weser.

Experience the nature park!

Encounter fairies and elves, taste fresh spring herbs, marvel at the variety of mushrooms, experience the primeval forest, hear the babbling of springs, enjoy music and poetry, see the nature park in the light of the full moon - with our Sunday hikes we would like to invite you to look at nature and the Münden Nature Park from familiar angles, rediscover it with different eyes and enjoy it!
