The Wehlheider Hoftheater has its origins in 1911, when it was initially founded under the name Freie Literarische Vereinigung von 1911. After an early heyday, the theater had to cease operations in 1937 before it was resumed in 1946 - after the Second World War - in cooperation with another amateur theater in Kassel. In the following decades, the stage continued to develop until it finally flourished again under its current name and found a permanent, traditional home in the Cassalla Theater in Kassel.
The Wehlheider Hoftheater stages four productions a year. The first production in spring is a play for children and young people, in which only young actors and actresses perform under the motto "Children play for children". This is followed by two adult theater productions in April/May and September/October - a varied repertoire ranging from musicals to exciting crime thrillers and humorous comedies. The theater year ends with an atmospheric family play in the run-up to Christmas.
The Wehlheider Hoftheater presents its performances at the Cassalla Theater in Jordanstraße 11, 34117 Kassel - an atmospheric venue that gives each production a special setting.
