The Planetary Walk is a kind of "map of the universe" that reduces the distances and sizes of the planets to a scale of 1:495 million. In this way, the idea of the immense distances and differences in size of our planets visible from Earth in relation to the sun becomes a sensually comprehensible experience.

More information
The sun is visible from afar above the glass entrance in the centre of the Orangery. From here, the space flaneur passes Mercury at the edge of the Karlswiese, Venus, both about the size of a hazelnut, then Earth, with roughly the dimensions of a walnut. We continue along the axis of the Karlsaue, to Mars first, under the oak avenue, to Jupiter, which is positioned as a golden sphere on the roof of the little temple on Swan Island in the Aueteich and on its banks. Finally, Saturn and Uranus are already outside the Karlsaue. And if you want to travel all the way to Neptune, you have to continue to the R1 cycle path in Guntershausen.
