Between shapes

Stories emerge in the spaces in between: between storytelling and listening, words and images, traditional material and contemporary interpretations. The work of artist Helga Gebert brings these in-betweens to life. As an author and illustrator, Helga Gebert is one of the leading figures in German children’s and young adult literature, as it was redefined in the 1970s. Through the publisher Beltz & Gelberg, she published her own fantastical stories and illustrated numerous fairy tales, such as those from the collections of the Brothers Grimm or *One Thousand and One Nights*.
