On the forecourt of the Kulturbahnhof stands the artwork "Man Walking to the Sky", erected by Jonathan Borofsky for documenta 9 in 1992.
In contrast to other outdoor documenta objects, Jonathan Borofsky's upward-pointing installation meets with broad approval. Placed directly in front of the Museum Fridericianum for documenta 9, it was purchased with the help of public participation and sponsors and then moved to its current location in 1995.

Despite its critical position between ascent and fall, with the end of the road in sight, the figure rising on a slender tube has become a symbol of hope for the region. At the same time, the figure striving away from the earth in a straight line is also meant as an embodiment of existential danger. In blind optimism of progress, the man strives towards heaven without caring about the circumstances of his forward rush. Regardless of this, however, the popular work is claimed for company and event logos and used intensively as a favourite motif of tourism, product and service advertising.
