On the forecourt of the Kulturbahnhof stands the artwork "Man Walking to the Sky", erected by Jonathan Borofsky for documenta 9 in 1992.
The symbol of hope for an entire region
A man made of fiberglass climbs almost light-footedly up the diagonally protruding pipe. Undeterred, he makes his way: always forwards and upwards. But the steel beneath his feet is finite.
With his "Man Walking to the Sky", Jonathan Borofsky has created a figure that can embody recklessness and hubris as well as unshakeable hope and the pursuit of happiness. The "Sky Striker" became a public favorite and landmark, first for documenta 9 and soon for Kassel itself.
