Love is considered the most normal thing in the world - and yet we often find it difficult to talk about love. Some people spend a lifetime searching for it between reason and emotion, even though it is supposedly everywhere. It often comes too early or too late, always seems too much or too little. It is rarely simple - and almost never enough.
Whether as a state or an idea, a need or a construct - love has accompanied mankind in countless forms throughout its history. It alternates fluidly between eroticism, friendship, play, faith, dependence, duty and obsession. As a multifaceted basic need, it shapes our decisions, both individually and socially. It can be found in both the most beautiful and the most terrible moments of our lives.
This exhibition is an invitation to think about, question and experience love in all its diversity. The cross-generational, cross-media and cross-national contributions are facets of love that make use of various artistic means. Whether love inspires or unsettles, whether it is thought or felt - this exhibition offers the opportunity to experience many of its manifestations.
