A moment in natural history permanently captured
A stone dreams in the crown of a hazelnut tree, as if it had grown wings overnight. Giuseppe Penone's poetic work was presented as the first exhibit of documenta 13 in the Karlsaue in 2010. "Idee di Pietra" thrives on the tension between earthiness and growth, between the solidity of the stone and the spreading branches of the tree. But it is also about the relationship between nature and art: while the stone is a granite boulder, the tree is made of bronze.
The work of art was secured for Kassel through civic engagement.
