Strikingly simple and yet so meaningful. The picture by Alicja Biala shows a motif in the colours white, black and grey that stretches across the entire wall. It depicts three boys standing somewhat insecurely in the room.
Photo from her own family album

The reduced, graphic style of the mural is immediately striking. Alicja Biala also limits the colours to black, white and grey. Lines, hatchings and geometric patterns structure the surfaces. The motif fills almost the entire wall. Three boys, somewhat uncertain in the room, grope for each other with their hands. As if they wanted to assure themselves of each other's presence. Their gaze seems to go nowhere.

The artist, who comes from Poland, used a photo from her family album as a model. Her grandmother worked at a primary school for children blinded in the war. The three boys were her pupils.

Alicja Biala studied in Copenhagen and London. She works as an illustrator, graphic designer and street artist. The wall was realised as part of the public art gallery offensive of the KolorCubes association in 2017. The site is also home to the association's workspace.

The mural is part of the project "Public Art Gallery" by KolorCubes.

This artwork is also included in the audio tour "Streetart in Kassel" on izi.Travel. The tour was made possible by the cdw Foundation
