Welcome to the Weser Cycle Trail - cycling fun along the Weser!

The Weser Cycle Path covers a total of 520 kilometers, divided into 15 stages, from the source of the Weser River in Hann. Münden to Cuxhaven on the North Sea.

The first stage of the Weser Cycle Path covers approximately 46 km through the Reinhardswald Nature Park. It starts at the Weserstein, where the Werra and Fulda rivers meet, as this is where the Weser originates. Following the river's course in a northern direction, the route takes you to Hemeln. From here, you have the opportunity to take a detour into the fairytale-like Reinhardswald and visit the Sababurg with its Sleeping Beauty castle, the animal park, and the primeval forest. Cross the Weser in Hemeln using the Gierseilfähre (cable ferry) to Reinhardshagen-Veckerhagen and continue your journey into the Reinhardswald.

The main route of the Weser Cycle Path continues from Hemeln, following the river closely, passing through Bursfelde with its former Benedictine monastery, and into the municipality of Wesertal. The fairytale characters "Puss in Boots" and "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" find their home in the districts here.

Continuing on the right bank of the Weser, the main route of the Weser Cycle Path passes by the bridge near Gieselwerder. The bike path meanders along the Weser, offering picturesque views of untouched nature. In Lippoldsberg, it is worth taking a short break. The village is nestled in a picturesque valley surrounded by the vast forests of Reinhardswald, Bramwald, and Solling. Here, you can admire the Lippoldsberg Monastery, which dates back to the 11th century. If desired, you can also cross to the other side of the Weser using a Weser ferry. On the main route, you continue through Bodenfelde with its picturesque half-timbered buildings and a beautiful Weser promenade, and then reach Wahmbeck. Here, you can experience crossing the river using the Gierseilfähre, just like in olden times. On the other side of the Weser, you'll find the alternative route of the Weser Cycle Path, which allows you to experience the cycle path as a circular tour. Whether on the main or alternative route, we continue our bike tour northward and eventually reach the stage destination of Bad Karlshafen. Here, you can explore the historical town hall, the German Huguenot Museum, the "Weser-Therme" wellness oasis, and the harbor basin in the midst of the white baroque town.

For those continuing their cycling journey on the Weser Cycle Path the next day, you leave the Reinhardswald Nature Park after Bad Karlshafen.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

If you want to continue your cycling tour in the Reinhardswald Nature Park, we recommend taking the Diemel cycle path towards Liebenau and Warburg as far as Willingen. It also runs on mostly flat, easily navigable paths along the course of the river Diemel and is certified with five stars by the ADFC.
