The lakes circuit leads past four lakes around the Borkener Seenland and is easily accessible in both directions. Again and again there are beautiful views of the natural and cultural landscape and opportunities for a break. At the railway station Borken (Hessen), at the railway station Singlis, at the natural swimming lake Stockelache and at the Singliser See there are information boards with the route and information on the history of the Borkener Seenland.
The Borkener Seenland with the natural swimming lake Stockelache, the surfing and water sports area Singliser See and the nature reserve Borkener See arose from the reclamation of the Borkener Braunkohlereviers. The Gombether Lake is still in the disgrace phase. The Hessische Braunkohle Mining Museum with the theme park Coal & Energy and the visitor tunnel clearly shows the mining tradition of the northern Hessian town.
