From the Lahn to the Eder

Parallel to the Burgwaldbahn railway line, the route connects the Lahn with the Eder and mainly passes through the scenic Wetschaft Valley, which borders the western flank of the Burgwald forest. Starting from the Sarnau train station on the Lahn, the route leads to Wetter, which features the 13th-century Stiftskirche (Collegiate Church) and a diverse ensemble of half-timbered buildings around the historic marketplace.

In addition to numerous picturesque farming villages in the following Wetschaft Valley, the Huguenot and Waldensian villages of Todenhausen and Wiesenfeld hold particular cultural and historical interest. At the height of the Birkenbringhausen train station, the watershed between the Lahn and the Eder, as well as between the Rhine and Weser rivers, is crossed. From here, the route descends into the Edertal, where the charming half-timbered town of Frankenberg (Eder) marks the endpoint.

The historical old town of Frankenberg (Eder) is especially worth seeing, with its Gothic Liebfrauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) and the ten-towered town hall featuring a carillon.
