In the 1960s and 1970s, rivers and streams were straightened, piped or built over. The eponymous Wahlebach also flowed through eastern Kassel as a completely enclosed canal until the early 2000s. Then, from 2005, it was converted to a natural state under the management of the Kassel drainage company. A large number of trees already lined the Wahlebach in the past. Since 2021, the green corridor has been extensively redesigned and significantly upgraded. When the work is expected to be completed in 2026, one of Kassel's largest green spaces will have been created. Here, natural and urban spaces will be linked in an exemplary way.
