Spohr Museum
Louis Spohr was one of the most influential musicians of the 19th century. He was court conductor in Kassel from 1822 to 1857.
Personal furnishings and instruments illustrate Spohr's life and work situation and provide references to his musical work. Spohr composed operas, symphonies, chamber and violin concertos. He was a violin virtuoso - alongside the Italian Niccolò Paganini, he was one of the greatest violinists of his time - and teacher, influenced orchestral culture and modernised instrument making. The museum shows the importance of Louis Spohr for his time and builds bridges to the present. A variety of hands-on activities encourage visitors to actively engage with this exceptional musician.
