various sights
The limestone rocks of the vineyard are criss-crossed with tunnels and passages. Once used for storing beer, they were converted into air raid shelters during World War 2 and provided shelter for up to 10,000 people. The Kassel Fire Brigade Association offers guided tours of the tunnels once a month.
Beer cellar and shelter

As early as the 13th century, the name "Weinberg" (vineyard) is mentioned in connection with the cultivation of wine at this site. From 1825 onwards, tunnels were driven into the limestone rocks which were then used for beer storage.

The temperature in the tunnels is around 11° at all times of the year . Ten entrances and nine galleries form the basis for the labyrinth of corridors. In 1942, the beer cellars were converted into an air raid shelter. Up to 10,000 people found shelter and refuge here during the Second World War.

Thanks to the Kassel Fire Brigade Association (Feuerwehrverein Kassel e. V.), which has studied the history and subject matter of the shelters, it is possible to visit the Weinberg tunnel complex.
