Isle of Roses

A rose garden was first laid out in Wilhelmshöhe Park in 1767. The "Rose Island" and with it the shrub roses in the landscape park were created around 1790. As early as 1775, the court gardener of Landgrave Friedrich II, Daniel August Schwarzkopf, bred the "Pearl of Weissenstein" there.
