nature reserve
The Dönche leisure and recreation area is located in the southwest of Kassel. The 171 hectares of nature reserve are criss-crossed by hiking trails and showcase the beautiful natural landscape. Besides green meadows, there are also pastures, fields, streams and forests where many animal species can be observed.
The largest road-free inner-city nature reserve in Germany preserves a tremendous biological diversity. For the residents of the districts of Brasselsberg, Nordshausen, Oberzwehren, Süsterfeld-Helleböhn and Niederzwehren, the district-free area lies in the immediate vicinity. It is crossed by two small rivers: The Dönchebach and the Krebsbach, which in turn flows into the Dönchebach.
