The Glockenborn Nature Reserve is a paradise and an exceptionally worthwhile destination for all nature enthusiasts. Its unique wet meadows, shallow water lakes, and small ponds give rise to a diverse and rare flora and fauna, some of which have become scarce in the Hessen region. Many wildlife and plant experts find delight in the species that have found a home here. The breeding and migratory bird species within the area make Glockenborn one of the most valuable wetland habitats in North Hessen. To maintain the area, a gentle year-round grazing with robust cattle breeds is carried out.
The name of the nature reserve is derived from a legend: When children had secret wishes, they were told, "Go to Glockenborn. If you are a good child and can be very quiet, you will hear a soft ringing. After that, if the wish is reasonable, it will come true." Another legend states that the bell of the Todenhäuser Church was submerged in the marshy terrain to keep it away from warring hordes, for example.
