Just in time for the opening of documenta fifteen in June 2022, the wall on Staircase 4, was completed together with the collective Britto Arts Trust from Dhaka, Bangladesh. The wall design was preceded by an intensive process that then culminated in just under two weeks of close collaboration.
During the conversation, KolorCubes created collages together with Britto's team and agreed that the coming together of different cultural groups should also be visualised on the wall. What could be more obvious than to choose icons of the respective country?
KolorCubes chose the musician Torch (l.) and the actor and comedian Heinz Erhardt (2nd from l.). Torch is a significant figure for German hip hop culture, Heinz Erhardt made a few films in Kassel in the 1950s, "The Last Pedestrian" is even set in some scenes in Treppenstraße.
Britto have chosen to portray singer-songwriter Azam Khan, (2nd from right) actor Abu Taher Mohammad Shamsuzzaman (right) and actress Afroza Sultana Ratna aka Shabana. She is depicted as Buraq at the bottom centre, a mount with wings and human antlers.
The artwork is part of the "Public Art Gallery" project by KolorCubes.
