The Kassel artist Jackules was commissioned by a housing cooperative to design this block of houses. The unifying theme of the murals is building forms and geometric bodies in nature and the animal world. The first mural was created in 2019 and is located on the gable end facing Wolfhager Straße.
While humans live in a cuboid, the snail carries its spiral-shaped home on its back. The red cube below it is a hexahedron. In Plato's philosophy, it represents the earth. In Indian colour symbolism, the colour red is assigned to the base chakra. Jackules thus symbolises house construction.
The spiral occurs several times, for example in the water vortex, the sunflower or the implied galaxy. These are based on the construction principle of the "golden section". The "golden section" is also often used in art and architecture, as it creates harmonious proportions.
Behind Jackules is David Harwardt. He started with graffiti as a child and has turned his passion into a profession. You can discover more walls by him in Kassel. There is often a conceptual connection between his paintings. Besides his commissioned work, he is still active as a freelance graffiti artist.
This artwork is included in the audio tour "Streetart in Kassel" on izi.Travel. The tour was made possible by the cdw Foundation.
