event location/venue
The "Hummelwerkstatt" is a special nature experience location and extracurricular learning place dedicated to the topic of insects.

The "Hummelwerkstatt" is a facility of the Nature Information Center Naumburg.

Located at the outskirts of Naumburg, amidst the idyllic floodplains of the river Elbe, the Hummelwerkstatt offers an opportunity to learn all about bumblebees, bees, ants, and other solitary insects that do not form colonies.

Established in cooperation with the University of Kassel in 1994, the "Hummelzoo" houses various bumblebee colonies during the summer months. Visitors can observe these colonies in a dimly lit room, simulating their natural underground habitat. There is also a training room where exhibits showcase the life cycle of bumblebees and their significance for humans. Additionally, visitors can find bumblebee nest boxes in the adjacent garden and an insect hotel for solitary insects.

Since 2005, the Hummelwerkstatt also features two ant terrariums from the Ameisenschutzwarte Hessen (Ant Conservation Service Hesse), which explain the complex interactions within an ant colony and their importance for the forest ecosystem.

While the primary target audience is children and teenagers, people of all ages are invited to actively and playfully learn more about the fascinating lives of insects.
