From Hercules to the castle
The water gushes over the cascades, the Steinhöfer waterfall, the Devil's Bridge and falls over the aqueduct and the Peneus cascades down to the castle pond. Here, the water pressure causes the "Great Fountain" to shoot over 50 metres into the air. This spectacle is the finale and highlight of the water features.
Here you will find the sequence of the water features
Timing of the water features
2:30 pm
The starting point for the water features is at the foot of the Octagon, on which Hercules is enthroned. Two water steps surround the grotto complex in a horseshoe shape. This is where the fountains begin.
2:35 pm
From the giant head basin down to the Neptune basin, the cascades are interrupted by a total of three oval water basins. The huge cascade system is lined on both sides by 535 and 539 steps.
3:05 pm Steinhöfer waterfall
The Steinhöfer waterfall from 1793 was named after the "architect" of the waterworks, Karl Steinhöfer. It is part of the water system that supplies the romantic waterworks.
3:20 pm Teufelsbrücke
The water flows under the bridge into the "Höllenteich" pond 10 metres below, which was created by Heinrich Christoph Jussow in 1792/93.
3:30 pm Aqueduct
The aqueduct is an imitation of a Roman water conduit and was built between 1788 and 1792. It is still the highest artificial waterfall in an artistically designed garden.
3:45 pm Large fountain
The seemingly natural pond was created artificially in the middle of the 18th century. This is where the water art finds its grandiose conclusion in the 52 metre high rising fountain.
