"The moated castle ruin at the foot of the Dreienberg".

In the 13th century the moated castle Friedewald was built as a successor of the "Drygenburg". It is located at the crossroads of the medieval military and long-distance trade routes Nuremberg-Bremen and Frankfurt-Leipzig.

In the middle of the 15th century the Vogthaus in the north and the Marstall in the south were built. Today, these are used as conference rooms and as a local history museum and town hall, respectively. The Great Barn with dairy in the west was demolished in the middle of the 19th century. Today, the 5-star Göbel's Schlosshotel "Prinz von Hessen" is located there. Outside the complex is the Senghaus. All these properties are embedded in the beautiful castle park.

In the castle courtyard, you can still see the 3-bowl fountain built in the 16th century, which is also reflected in the coat of arms of the municipality of Friedewald.
