The TwisteseeThe Twistetalsperre was built as flood protection for the Diemeltal. The dam is located below the village of Wetterburg and is about 22 m high and 280 m long. The Twist reservoir has a capacity of 9.1 million m3 and is thus just under half the size of the Diemeltalsperre. The approximately 3 km long lake is surrounded by an approximately 7 km long lakeside path, where no cars drive.During the planning for the construction of the dam, the high recreational value of such a water area was also taken into account. Thus, in addition to protection against flooding, the Twistesee also offers a wide range of recreational activities (fishing, boating, golf course, adventure golf, Segway, water ski facility). Strandbad TwisteseeThe lido, newly built in 2015, awaits you with a white beach that extends into the water. A climbing frame and a tube slide were built for the children. The lido area includes spacious playgrounds and sunbathing areas, as well as two volleyball courts. A barrier-free serpentine path leads wheelchair users and parents with strollers to the lakeshore without any problems. On the beach promenade there are handicapped accessible changing rooms with showers (for a fee) and toilets. The café & snack bar "Kleine Reise" located on the beach promenade offers coffee and cake, drinks and snacks.
