Special exhibition in the town hall until 21 July
Illustrations, infographics, historical photos and easy-to-understand texts provide compact information on six panels about the events surrounding 17 June 1953. It shows how - barely four years after the founding of the GDR - a workers' protest against difficult living and working conditions turned into a people's uprising that affected the entire GDR and was finally put down by force of arms when Soviet tanks intervened.
Detailed background information and interviews with contemporary witnesses as well as educational material on the events of that time can also be found on the website bundestiftung-aufarbeitung.de .
The exhibition can be visited during the opening hours of the town hall (Monday to Thursday 9 am to 5 pm, Friday 9 am to 3 pm) in the side hall on the second floor. Information and educational material is also available. Admission is free.
