Friedrichstein Castle is located in the north of the town of Bad Wildungen. The extensive collection of hunting and military history of the Museumslandschaft Hessen Kassel is exhibited in the castle, which was built between 1663 and 1714 by the counts of Waldeck. It includes historical weapons, uniforms, medals and paintings from the Middle Ages to the annexation of the Electorate to Prussia in 1866. The so-called Turcica collection is a focal point of the exhibition. This includes around 70 ornately crafted weapon ensembles as well as an audience tent of the Turkish army from the period around 1700. These entered the collections of the landgraves and electors of Hesse-Kassel as spoils of war, gifts and through targeted purchases. The magnificent stuccowork by Andreas Gallasini and the ceiling paintings by Carlo Caselli, which still adorn the interiors today, can also be admired.
Today, the castle provides the setting for chamber concerts and folk events, among others. In the castle café with terrace you can enjoy coffee and cake in a baroque ambience in the afternoon, and in the evening a varied menu invites you to feast.
