Bürgipark

park/garden area
The Bürgi Park invites visitors of all ages to play, climb, and relax. It is located in the Wesertor district. Covering more than 3,500 square meters, the park is named after the watchmaker and astronomer Jost Bürgi, who discovered the second as a unit of time in Kassel.

The Bürgi Park is divided into four terraces: On the upper level, visitors will find a pétanque area as well as outdoor fitness equipment for adults. The second terrace features a colorful oak climbing structure with a double swing, a slide, and a sand play area. The central lawn is divided into two sections by walls, making it suitable for ball games as well. Along Bürgistraße, a welcoming paved entrance area with seating walls and benches invites visitors to linger.

Dogs are allowed on a leash outside the playground area.

Namesake Jost Bürgi
Bürgi Park is named after the watchmaker and astronomer Jost Bürgi. In 1579, he came to Kassel from Switzerland and worked as a court watchmaker and astronomer at the princely court of Hesse-Kassel. In 1585, he created a clock for Landgrave Wilhelm IV that featured three hands for the very first time. This marked the birth of the second as a unit of time.
