Bastards!

Whether mosquito, raccoon, anaconda or shark - the special exhibition takes a close look at animals that we often refer to as "pests". Why do they have a bad reputation, are the fears justified, are they superfluous or do they perhaps even have an important function?
Special exhibition "Dung beasts!?" until September 6, 2026

We constantly encounter animals that annoy us or are even dangerous to us. We often refer to such animals as "pests". This exhibition takes a close look at a wide variety of animals: Why do mosquitoes want our blood? What do I do with the raccoon in the attic? Why do anacondas have such a bad reputation? And how dangerous is the great white shark really? Some of the fears of these species are justified, some are not - entire groups of animals are often labeled as "pests".

Yet all animals fulfill an ecological function. After all, we need great biological diversity and different habitats in order to keep the earth's enormous material cycles and thus our basis of life stable. Goosebumps, horror or laughter: come along on an exciting voyage of discovery to rather unpleasant animal species. Find out why humans and "dung beasts" live in conflict and how it might be possible to live together on our planet after all.
