Wilhelmshöhe Palace

Wilhelmshöhe Palace was built in several phases beginning in 1786 under Landgrave Wilhelm IX. Previously, an Augustinian monastery and, later, a small hunting lodge had stood on the same site. The central part of the palace, in particular, was completely destroyed during World War II. Between 1968 and 1974, the building was rebuilt and converted into a museum.

Various Collections Under One Roof
Today, Wilhelmshöhe Palace houses a collection of antiquities, the Old Masters Painting Gallery, the Print Collection, and a library. In addition, the museum provides space for special exhibitions. The palace rooms in the strict sense can be viewed in the Weißenstein Wing.
