It is not a real murder. It's the outdoor recreational experience "Stadtkrimi". It's an app that combines a city tour, a walking tour and a mystery game.
Here's how it works:
The Stadtkrimi app is free to download from the Apple and Android app stores. Then you can select the corresponding route and unlock each for 6.99 euros. A brochure is available for 8.99 euros at Neuenhainer See, Neuental town hall, the Borken tourist information office and the Coal & Energy theme park of the Hessian Lignite Mining Museum.
And then it can already start. The starting point: the barbecue area on the outskirts of Römersberg. First, the case is explained. The murder of Herbert Klug has to be solved. Until you reach the Altenburg, you have to solve a murder case. At the beginning, each hiker has 15 crime suspects and four crime weapons to choose from. Along the way, there are various clues as to who it could be and who can be ruled out.
In the app, you can then always cross off one suspect and one murder weapon, so that one person and one weapon remain at the end.
The first two clues are in the starting parking lot. The clues are based on the environment. For example, the hiker must read an information board to find out what the clue involves. The clues are designed quite differently, for example, one receives a phone call and follows a witness conversation. In addition, the hiker also learns a lot about the Celts.
At the end of the crime tour, you can go up the wooden Altenburg tower and enjoy the view of the Kellerwald and the Schwalmpforte.
The three-kilometer hike takes about two and a half hours. Good footwear is recommended. Please stay on the trail.
